Republican Obsession
What is it with the Republican/Conservative obsession with homosexuality?
UPDATE: It strikes me that there is an analogy to gay men who feel the need to have sex in public view (something that I have blogged about before). Just about every adult knows that there is homosexual sex happening out there. Most Americans aren't approving of it, but at least it isn't something that they have to see. It's an abstraction. When you walk down a public beach in Rhode Island, or along the Russian River in California, and there are guys having sex, it is no longer an abstraction. It's a reminder that someone wants you to see what they are doing, or at least doesn't care that it might not be what others want to see.
How much does Clayton think about gay sex? I think this definitely says something about him and the other Conservatives that just can't stop thinking about it.
Not to belabor the point, but this also brings up the matter of responsibility for social/cultural trends. Just as I said that we all are responsible for racial issues like hair straightening, so too is society likely responsible for extremist behaviors like gay sex in public places. When certain people are hated so much and treated so poorly it causes strange behaviors (Larry "Widestance" Craig and his Bathroom Capers comes to mind). Unlike hair straightening (I'd post a link to my earlier blog post, but I can't find it), public sex may be an unconscious or conscious urge to strike out and prove a point.
Odd behaviors sometimes have roots that aren't as obvious as some people would make them out to be and they deserve to be researched and understood, not used as an example to encourage hatred of minorities.
Aside: it appears I made a plea about similar issues on HBO
Lets just say that identity problems that create and enforce poor self images can easily be driven by societal declarations of morality driven by ignorance or racism.

lol
That is hilarious.
I didn't realize that was an update to his post about Open Carry. Leave it to Cramer to mentally associate firearms with men having sex with each other.
the unequivocal notion
I agree!
Very funny. And what in the hell is he even talking about? I've walked down the Russian River in California and darn, I missed those gay guys having sex in public. Maybe I was walking on the right side of the river. Or the part where the river is straight and doesn't bend.
Obsession goes deeper than sex
Although it is true that oppression and repression can cause people to act out in sexually inappropriate ways, as you correctly site with our very own toe-tapping senator Larry Craig, there is a much deeper issue here.
The obsession, regardless of whether it is internalized or externalized is really based on hate. The vast majority of gay men and lesbians do not engage in the kind of sexual behavior Cramer and others like so much to focus on. Regardless of how it seems to titillate them, they use these examples as a propaganda tool justify and perpetuate hate and discrimination. What heterosexual people do not engage in sexually inappropriate behaviors?
One has to look no further than our own local wingnut, Bryan Fischer. His obsession goes well beyond sex and labeling us as child molesters, recruiters, and of all things responsible for the Holocaust. Now that is something for the shrinks to study!

I meant to link to your article before, but the blog was acting up. Would you like for that to be front paged?
